I pulled the Eight of Wands as January 2023’s tarot card. This card is from the She Wolfe tarot deck by
, which I absolutely adore & have been using more often than not lately for its incredible divine feminine energy. The Eight of Wands in this card is almost dizzying, and speaks to almost a rapid ascension of the figures on the card, moving through a chromatic spectrum. The spectrum of colors speaks to me about all the different possibilities that are out there for us right now.
Things seem to be happening one after the other, or maybe even on top of each other or all at once. A lot of this stuff may life-changing shit - the 8s always seem to hold a sort of karmic heaviness to them. After all, an eight turned on its side is the infinity sign. However, with it being a Minor Arcana card, it tells me there’s a time limit on this uncertainty.
As choices, possibilities, decisions rain upon us, overwhelming us, it’s key to not act out of a place of trying to control the situation. Control, for many, is a trauma response, often triggered out of fear of being at the mercy of others.
There’s a certain bit of surrender that needs to happen here, to get you through, though. And if you’re anything like me, the mere thought of surrendering to the circumstances might be anxiety-inducing. So what we have to do, dear friends, is freakin’ relax.
This is the time to lean into the creative pursuits - writing, painting, taking photos, making Tiktoks, whatever fuels your joy and rest right now is what you should be focusing on. Journaling especially can help you make sense of this jumbled, fast, “i’m drinking from a firehose” type of time.
Rest can be a creative pursuit, too. You can’t pour from an empty cup - because I’m guessing that if you’re anything like me, you’ve got a rather empty-feeling cup after the last couple of weeks of Holiday Season. So let me remind you to pause to fill yourself back up.
This is an electric time. I hope you are all hanging on for the ride. Be well and brightest blessings for you in 2023.
